Advanced Islamic Thought Seminars

advanced-islamic-thought-seminars-banner-low-res-halfAdvanced Islamic Thought Seminars (AITS) is a project of the Quran Literacy Institute, in partnership with ILF and co-sponsorship of Young Muslims and other organizations, consisting of an advanced academic track of quarterly seminars by visiting scholars in their field of expertise ranging from diverse backgrounds. This series will seek to highlight the depth and breadth of the Islamic intellectual tradition. Students will be exposed to advanced courses in areas of Islamic history, spirituality, politics, law, theology, hadith studies and philosophy in order to enrich, enhance, and expand their intellectual horizons in various disciplines relating to the intellectual study of Islam.

Advanced Islamic Thought Seminars (AITS) aims to develop a cadre of serious thinkers and students, focusing on elevating the mind and raising the scholarly discourse of our community in various disciplines relating to the Muslim experience. AITS will be managed by Usman Khan, graduate of Hartford Seminary and current Chaplain of Manhattanville College, NY.

PROGRAM OUTLINE: Visiting scholars will be invited for a full weekend, Friday through Sunday. The basic itinerary will include a Friday evening lecture for a general audience, followed by a two-day seminar on Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Alternately, there may be a one full-day seminar on Saturday based upon visiting scholar preference and availability.

PROJECTED SCHEDULE: The Advanced Islamic Thought Seminars plans to offer at least 3 seminars a year in the following timeline:

  1. One seminar in the fall term (Sep—Dec)
  2. One seminar in the spring term (Jan—April)
  3. One seminar in early summer (May—July)

RECOMMENDED COURSE TUITION:

  • $40 for full weekend course
  • $25 for single day course
