In a world that glorifies celebrities and mass entertainment, for people to be obsessed with the details of another person’s life should come as no surprise. Muslims bring that passion and commitment to the life of a man who is more dear to them than their own children, their family members and even their own selves. In fact, faith would demand nothing less. The study of ḥadīth is taking a step into the world of the statements, the actions, the words, the utterances, the vocabulary, the style, the life and the mannerisms of the Prophet Muḥammad, peace and blessings be upon him always.

Ḥadīth 102 is the second of two courses in the comprehensive study of ḥadīth offered in the institute. It consists of a one-semester seminar which aims to provide a basic functional literacy to the student concerning ḥadīth sciences, with a focus on ḥadīth terminology.
The seminar builds upon the foundation provided by the Ḥadīth 101 Seminar.
Highlights of the class will include offering Ijāzah in various specific ḥadīth in order to illustrate the traditional methodology and link the students in an unbroken chain to the Prophet, detailed Isnād analysis of various specific ḥadīth in order to illustrate how the isnād and context can enhance our understanding of ḥadīth, and inspirational biographies of important relevant personalities in ḥadīth study.
Ḥadīth 102 is a 3-credit course which consists of 5-6 classes, with an individual class duration of 4 hours, for a total of approximately 20 class instruction-hours. The course will contain 2 online exams.
Ḥadīth 101 is a prerequisite for this seminar. These two courses are intended to make students ḥadīth-literate and provide the basis for further advanced Ijāzah courses in ḥadīth texts. Ḥadīth 101 and 102 are core components of the Diploma in Islamic Literacy.
